BE KIND TO YOUR HEART

The global consumption of meat is rapidly rising. It is very shocking for me to know that Americans eat one million chickens per hour. To be honest, this is not the story of America, it is happening everywhere in the world. We are consuming chickens that are fed on growth hormones and antibiotics. The net result of this is seen after 45 days when the chicken is out in the market for slaughter. Chicken's legs are unable to withstand enormous weight of the muscles and you will often see them sitting in their cages. This growth-hormones-laden meat is the root cause of majority of chronic diseases we are dealing with. On a recent visit to an animal farm I witnessed pigs that were being raised just to gain weight so that when they are slaughtered they have more meat. This kind of meat when consumed will cause many known and unknown problems in our body metabolism resulting in cancers and inflammatory conditions.

Our diets are centered toward meat and dairy products which are high in fats and cholesterol. It is not surprising that our society is dealing with all types of cancers and chronic diseases. Diabetes and heart disease rates are skyrocketing across the globe. Now, we have collected enough evidence about the power of plant-based diets to reduce global burden of diseases. I am very happy to learn about a recent initiative by the government of Germany to ban non-vegetarian food in government buildings. Such kind of initiatives will certainly help us reduce the disease burden of our fellow beings. A plant-based diet reduces type 2 diabetes by 62 percent. It would be good to see physicians prescribing fruits and vegetables for diabetes treatment. Beans work as a natural glucose or blood sugar stabilizer. Leafy greens, nuts, and almost all fruits and vegetables stabilize blood glucose. This slashes the risk for not only diabetes but obesity, heart disease, and certain forms of cancer, including prostate cancer.
The most important benefit of eating a diet without animal products is that you are not consuming any cholesterol at all. Saturated fat, which is found in high quantities in animal products, raises cholesterol level in your blood. Most of the plant- based diets are low in saturated fat and would help bringing down your LDL which is bad cholesterol and increase your HDL which is good cholesterol.
According to a recent study published in 2016 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the U.S.A., researchers found that vegetarian and vegan diets are not only best for human health but also for the environment. A shift to a plant-based diet is projected to reduce greenhouse gases caused by food production by 70 percent compared to a control scenario by 2050.
Being a father of two kids my job at home is to make sure my kids eat healthy and are fully aware of all the harmful effects of processed meat, cheese, and eggs and always prefer foods grown in the earth.
This book written by Alexandra Bernardez will provide you a complete picture on how a vegetarian diet will help you in your transition to a healthier you! You will learn how to grow your own vegetables and fruits in your backyard without putting too much effort. You will also find how a holistic approach toward health and environment can give you the peace of mind you deserve.
